A traveling exhibition, Beyond Rubik’s Cube opened at LSC this April to enormous press coverage and is slated to tour science centers, cultural institutions and alternative experience spaces around the world.

Highly immersive and interactive, the exhibition celebrates the cultural phenomenon and innovation that continues to inspire artists, engineers, mathematicians, and creative thinkers. Through original artifacts, hands-on manipulatives, and innovative digital interactives, the exhibition provides visitors opportunities to invent, play, and channel their inspirations onto the medium of the cube.

For the first science center in Puerto Rico, Liberty Science Center provided master planning consultation and developed the exhibition, Sustaining Puerto Rico. There visitors will examine the island and inhabitants in a global setting with an emphasis on sustainability and personal accountability for the planet, the island, and themselves. The Caguas Science Center is a Silver LEED-certified building.

This multimedia and artifact-rich exhibition highlights inventions and discoveries made by Bell Labs researchers over the past century with a glimpse at anticipated future innovations. Liberty Science Center designed the exhibition and gallery interior, also providing context for the Bell Labs Global Whiteboard, a dynamic visual system that surveys the global reach of this premiere research institution.

This exhibition explores of the science behind electricity and its practical application in powering the New York City rail system. This project included leading a team of partners in planning and developing a master plan to guide the future of this popular science center. Included were a building expansion proposal, new exhibitions and experiences, upgraded interior environments and improved support facilities. Additionally, Liberty Science Center designed three exhibition galleries on science and technology geared toward children ages 2 to 10 that feature museum collections.

Adjacent to the Ithra-Saudi Aramco Cultural Center, the Energy Center is a planned world-class museum designed to immerse visitors in issues of energy and the petroleum industry. Liberty Science Center is developing a new vision for the museum including hands-on exhibits on subjects such as environmental impacts and economic considerations. Plans include a “Challenger Center” classroom with an interactive space shuttle simulation experience.

To create a new institution designed to foster the development of a globally competitive workforce in Michigan, Liberty Science Center developed a detailed vision and master plan to merge several institutions into one entity, housed in a re-purposed five-story building. The space would include a museum with permanent exhibits on the history and people of Michigan; science, technology, engineering and mathematics; and world cultures and society. Additional space would be provided for temporary installations, an early childhood learning area, a high school program, classrooms, and a technology business incubator.

Liberty Science Center provided master planning services for two science centers planned in Turkey, one in Kocaeli and the other in Ankara. While the first was to focus on the legacy of papermaking in a re-purposed paper mill and the second examined the scientific contributions of Anatolian cultures, both explored contemporary issues in science and technology on local and global scales.

The planned Ithra-Saudi Aramco Cultural Center is an ambitious project in a breathtaking landmark building. The Cultural Center is intended to promote social transformation through knowledge, dialogue, and innovation. Liberty Science Center operated as a lead consultant in several key areas including architectural review and the development of educational and volunteer operations plans.

Highlighting its temporary exhibition in the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CRRNJ) historic train terminal, the Science Center designed festive wayfinding signage for display in Liberty State Park, the second most-visited state park in the nation. Banners embellished vintage streetlights along historic cobblestone Audrey Zapp Drive while stand-alone panels directed visitors into the terminal.

To integrate the history of the train terminal and ecology of the surrounding park, Liberty Science Center designed a series of interpretive panels set in moveable frames that can be reconfigured into different floor plans and re-purposed for continuing interpretation.
