Gateway

Alternate Route Science Certification Program

A unique approved Regional Training Center for alternate-route teachers in New Jersey, Gateway trains only alternate-route science teachers who have their first school contract in the state. Participants complete most of their training in an intensive 20-day summer program before they enter their first teaching position.

Participants observe and teach lessons in a local summer school program and receive onsite coaching visits once they are actually working in their school. Summer stipends of $2,700 are provided for the summer session and the tuition for the following 36-week, in-service session is pro-rated.

Graduate credit is available for the Gateway program from the College of New Jersey and St. Peters College at reduced tuition costs. Participants must have a Letter of Eligibility from the State of New Jersey and a contract to teach science in a New Jersey school during the 2007-08 school year in order to apply.
