From the Jennifer A. Chalsty Center for Science Learning and Teaching, students embark on interactive science experiences like no others. Led by our knowledgeable Science Educators, students will be immersed in a fascinating, science-rich adventure. Our inquiry-based investigations facilitate comprehension of complex subject matter in a way that’s … well … cool.
Length: 45 Minutes | Times: 9:30am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm
Program Cost: Minimum fee of $200.00 accommodates up to 25 participants; $8.00 per additional participant. (Maximum of 30 participants per workshop.)
Everyday Chemistry | Grades: 3 – 8
Matter and Reactions! Learn basic concepts in chemistry that deal with everyday “stuff”. Students will take part in activities that explain why chemistry is all about changes and participate in “messy” hands on activities.
Far Out: Scaling Our Solar System | Grades: 3 – 8
This program uses the technology of the Global Microscope to show students the objects in our solar system, up close, with more detail and clarity than they may have ever seen before. Hands-on activities allow them to grasp concepts of astronomic distances and planetary scale. For older students, we will investigate the role of gravity.
Project Skyscraper | Grades: 6 – 12
Project Skyscraper incorporates several mathematical concepts (proportion and scaling, measurement and units) in a program unified by the concepts of engineering and architecture. The students will have a “hands on” experience using some of the modern tools of surveying. They will integrate their results to build a scale model of the Freedom Tower, using architectural plans.
Notes: Group must arrive 10 minutes prior to their workshop. We are sorry, but we will not be able to offer workshops to groups that arrive after their scheduled start time.
