2014-2015 Young Scientist Lab Workshops

Young Scientist Lab Workshops foster the inquisitive nature of budding young scientists.  Each workshop meets the needs of a specific age group through hands-on activities that promote science thinking and reasoning. Topics include elementary physics, biology, engineering, life sciences, and earth science.

Our workshops are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in literacy and mathematics, and Science Learning Progression Standards (SLPS) for grades PreK-4 to 2nd grade. Our workshops are also aligned with Universal Design, a set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn.

It’s Sedimentary My Dear Watson – October and November

Do you like to collect things? Have you ever picked up a rock and wondered why it looks the way it does? Have you ever wondered what is inside a rock? In this workshop, students will learn the answers to those questions and be inspired to create a rock collection of their very own.

A Trek in Time – December and January

Be amazed as you are transported to a quarry in South Jersey where you will become a paleontologist on the trail of an elusive dinosaur fossil. Join us for this exciting workshop where students will learn how paleontologists search for fossils, use their tools, and explore plant life.

Critters ‘Round the Clock – February and March

Have you ever walked outside at night in the spring and listened to the music of the night? Did you notice the lights that seem to dance to the music? Have you ever noticed the plants, animals, and insects that live and breathe around you during the day? Students will become wildlife biologists exploring animals that are active at all hours of the day.
