Families are a primary focus at Liberty Science Center. Whether you have a wee one or a teenager, you’ll all have a great day. As always, if you have a suggestion or see something that could be improved, please let us know!

At Liberty Science Center you’ll discover that science is everywhere, even in some surprising places.

“I can do it myself!” We suggest that you encourage children to explore and experiment on their own, stepping in only as needed. You’ll help them develop self-confidence, curiosity and creativity as you stimulate their intellectual development.

Infants – Children under 2 years old are admitted free. Strollers are permitted in most areas of the Center and we offer a private nursing room with a rocking chair. Inquire at the Welcome Desk for a key. Please note that children under 2 are not permitted In the IMAX Dome Theater.
Ages 2-5 – Young children are natural scientists, always exploring the world around them. Encourage this urge to learn in the I Explore gallery — a special exhibition on the 2nd floor reserved for young learners, with free programs and self-guided tours. Each of the other galleries has exhibits for your child, too. You can also sign up for weekday parent and child or preschool group classes and workshops in the 1st floor Young Learner Lab located in the Jennifer A. Chalsty Center. Click here for more information about experiences at the Science Center for Young Learners.
Ages 5-10 – Children enjoy learning how things work. Whether they are dressing for surgery at Be A Surgeon in Infection Connection (great photo alert!), making a six-foot high soap bubble in Wonder Why or putting on construction gear to operate the electromagnetic crane and mini-front loader in Skyscraper, they’ll have a blast learning all day long.
Ages 10+ – Older guests are ready for more in-depth exploration and can take part in real science experiments such as isolating real wheat DNA in the Infection Connection Lab, using real port container-ship loading training videos in Our Hudson Home, and braving walking a steel beam 18 feet above the Skyscraper exhibition floor. Be sure to spend a moment in reflection at two massive pieces recovered following the World Trade Center destruction.
Special Needs Guests – We offer a welcoming environment for all learners. Our building is ADA compliant and two spacious elevators, wide hallways and open exhibit areas make it easy to get around.
