Wildlife Challenge
Now open: A thrilling new outdoor experience!

Could you survive as a wild animal living among the streets, sidewalks and sewer pipes of the urban jungle? Find out at Liberty Science Center's first outdoor exhibition prototype. You'll crawl, climb and claw your way through the challenges that face urban wildlife every day. Are you up to the challenge?
Squirrel Scurry
Squirrels can can race along narrow tree branches and power lines at up to 20 mph. Their long tails help provide balance. Scurry across narrow beams, and see if you can stay upright by balancing with your arms.
Egret Alley
New Jersey’s salt marshes provide precious habitat for species ranging from blue crabs to herons. Birds such as egrets navigate the thick grass and deep, damp mud with their narrow bodies and splayed-out feet, which keep them from sinking. You’ll have to brave a field of misty bamboo and the soft earth below.
Worm Wiggle
What’s the secret to being a worm? They’ve got no bones, but the complex muscles throughout their bodies let them wiggle like crazy. You’ll need all of your muscles to squirm among the giant balls netted together to form a worm burrow.
Rat Ramble
Remember the three blind mice? Well, rats don’t have it much better. Their eyesight is bad, but they make up for it with powerful senses of smell, hearing and touch. Crawling through a series of dark pipes, you’ll have to rely on those senses to find the exit.
Spider Climb
Spiders climb up and down their webs using just the tips of their legs, which often have tiny claws and toothed bristles. You can crawl across a suspended web without getting stuck, just like a fly-catching spider!
Whitetail Walk
Falcon Flight
Peregrine falcons are nature’s fastest fliers. They soar to great heights and then dive at speeds of up to 220 mph. Woe be to the fat pigeon below. Cities have proven to be great hunting and nesting grounds for falcons. As you soar down a zip line, imagine swooping upon your unsuspecting prey among the Manhattan skyscrapers just across the Hudson River.
NOTE: As an outdoor exhibition, Wildlife Challenge is dependent on the weather. Please stop by the Welcome Desk upon arrival for its operating hours. Click here for height and weight restrictions and clothing guidelines.
