Chief Science Officer, Head of R&D, Axcella Health

Dr. Tramontin has worked across a broad range of R&D, commercial, medical, and corporate topics. The majority of his work focuses specifically on medicine development. Prior to his role at Axcella, he cofounded and led McKinsey’s Center for Asset Optimization, a service line that helped clients with R&D project investment decisions, portfolio risk management, therapeutic area strategy, and product differentiation strategy. Tramontin also has extensive experience with business development and private equity clients on product search and evaluation.

Tramontin holds a PhD in zoology (neuroscience, ethology, and endocrinology) from the University of Washington. Before joining McKinsey, he was an experimental neuroscientist conducting neural stem cell research at the Rockefeller University and in the University of California San Francisco Department of Neurosurgery.
