MakerLab Weekend Series

Looking for a fun, educational family weekend activity? Try a new class series in the LSC MakerLab! In these hands-on classes, LSC educators show you and your kids (age 10 and up) how to use the latest programming and fabricating tools. Make a costume, saber, wand, Minecraft model or even your own, original video game.

2017-18 Schedule

Halloween Costume Armorsmithing
Session Dates: October 7, 14, 21, 28
Prepare to win Halloween! Learn the basics of costume design, then use 3D printers, a vacuformer, and other fabrication tools to build the best costume ever. (Note: Students must purchase some materials.)

Saber Smithing
Session 1 Dates: December 2, 9, 16
Session 2 Dates: February 17, 24, March 3
Use our programming tools and 3D printers to create a glowing saber worthy of intergalactic battle! You'll even learn a few tips on using it in saber combat.

Minecraft Masters!
Session 1 Dates: March 10, 17, 24, 31
Session 2 Dates: May 12, 19, June 2, 9
In this four-session series, teams will collaborate to create a Minecraft version of Liberty Science Center. Build all of your favorite exhibits!

Bloxels: 8-Bit Video Games
Session Dates: April 14, 21, 28
Pair up with a partner to design video game characters, create levels of play, and combine them all into an original game using Bloxels.

Wizened Wizards
Session Dates: April 14, 21, 28
In this three-class series, you will build your own wizard wand using 3D design and printing, then learn to create electronic circuits that will make it glow.
