LSC volunteer Maryrose Caulfield to be honored by NJ for public service

LSC News

Congratulations to Maryrose Caulfield! The LSC volunteer has just won a New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award.

This is the second time a volunteer nominated from LSC has received one of these awards, a celebration of public service throughout the state (there are an estimated 1.5 million volunteers in New Jersey). The Governor’s Advisory Council on Volunteerism will present Maryrose with her award at the dinner reception and ceremony on Sunday, May 19th at the War Memorial/Patriot Theatre in Trenton, NJ.

LSC is a magnet for passionate individuals who love science and people, with more than 500 volunteers and interns annually who donate over 50,000 hours to the Science Center. To shine among our group of amazing volunteers is an achievement in and of itself, and Maryrose truly stands out as an LSC ambassador.

Since September 2017, Maryrose has donated 539 hours. With a true passion for science, tech, engineering, and math, Maryrose can regularly be seen helping educators in LSC's labs, and inspiring countless middle school and high school students from throughout the state.

Maryrose has a bachelor's degree in elementary education and science, two master's degrees in biochemistry and administration supervision, and a doctorate in education supervision. A retired educator, principal, and superintendent, Maryrose chose to volunteer at LSC in order to still be engaged with children and science, and use her many years of experience.

"The outstanding experiences provided for each and every visitor are so impressive, it motivates me to do my best work...it is an honor to be part of the process of facilitating these incredible opportunities to the countless visitors who attend LSC," says Maryrose.

Maryrose's enthusiastic personality and calming, helpful energy, are cherished by students, educators, and the LSC family. We are thrilled that she has received this honor – congratulations, Maryrose!
