Jurassic Park comes to Liberty State Park: Liberty Science Center Opens Interactive Dino Dig Exhibition, Inspired By Legendary Paleontologist Jack Horner, May 21

Jersey City, NJ – May 9, 2016 – Liberty State Park will become Jurassic Park when Liberty Science Center transforms its backyard into an archeological dig site for the special limited-engagement “Dino Dig” exhibition beginning Saturday, May 21.

Guests will have the unique opportunity to experience a paleontological expedition during the month-long exhibition, working alongside LSC’s Dino Dig Guide Team to discover replica fossils of prehistoric creatures from the late Cretaceous period buried in the 35 tons of sand that will cover the specially designed space.

“Dino Dig,” which runs through June 10, is inspired by legendary paleontologist Jack Horner, the inspiration of the Michael Crichton novel and Steven Spielberg film Jurassic Park. The dig is intended to evoke the renowned fossil-rich Hell Creek Formation in Montana, site of a significant field study originated by Mr. Horner and his colleagues.

Guests will be able to meet Mr. Horner during a special “Dino Dig” preview on Wednesday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Center. Two days later, LSC will bestow its highest honor, the Genius Award, upon Mr. Horner at its prestigious Genius Gala 5.0 on Friday, May 20. Whoopi Goldberg, the acclaimed performer and science enthusiast, and LSC President and CEO Paul Hoffman will present the award to Mr. Horner.

“Every kid has imagined how cool it would be to dig for dinosaur bones,” said Mr. Hoffman. “Liberty Science Center is all about bringing science to life in fun, interactive, and compelling ways. With Jack Horner’s expertise to guide us, our ‘Dino Dig’ guests will see first-hand how exciting paleontology can be.”
