Brian Carlin

Head of Banking US, UBS


Brian Carlin is the Head of Banking US for UBS. In this role, he oversees over $200 billion in assets and liabilities across deposits, lending, and mortgages, among other products. In this capacity, Mr. Carlin is responsible for a team of over 600 employees across the US. As part of this role, he is involved in two large transformational projects for UBS Bank USA which are the conversion to a national charter and the build out of checking and savings accounts for clients’ personal and business needs.

Prior to this role, Carlin was the Chief Executive Officer for J.P. Morgan Private Capital. As part of the Global Alternatives division in J.P. Morgan Asset Management, J.P. Morgan Private Capital provides equity and debt solutions to private companies. J.P. Morgan Private Capital comprises multiple strategies with over $10 billion in client assets. In addition, he was also responsible for the build-out of J.P. Morgan’s new growth equity platform, raising over $1 bn in capital across the first two funds in Technology and Life Sciences.

Previously, Carlin served as CEO of Wealth Management Solutions for J.P. Morgan for five years. In this role, he was responsible for all wealth management products, including over $1.2 trillion in investment assets (with over $600 billion in centrally managed discretionary AUM), the Banking and Credit platforms, with nearly $500 billion in assets/liabilities across deposits, loans and mortgages, as well as several other areas including the global Trust & Estate business. In this capacity, Carlin oversaw a global team of 1,200 employees across 20 cities that was responsible for $1.6 trillion in client assets. As part of his remit, Carlin managed the WM Global Alternatives Investment Team, which oversaw over $100 billion of client capital committed across 250 funds, with over $75 billion in assets committed across Private Equity and Private Credit.

During his 20-plus-year career at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Carlin held various senior roles across the Asset & Wealth Management business, including serving as the division's Chief Financial Officer for three years. Asset & Wealth Management is responsible for $3.4 trillion in client assets and has a 200-year-old legacy as a trusted fiduciary to corporations, governments, institutions, and individuals. In addition, he previously served as Global Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) for J.P. Morgan Private Bank, overseeing the development of customized solutions, including building out independent cash trading capabilities, derivatives, and structures for high-net-worth individuals.

Carlin is a graduate of American University (BS) and Georgetown University (MBA). He lives in New Jersey with his wife and three children.
