It's a love written in the stars!

Today, Manhattan resident Akhil Sehgal proposed to his girlfriend Jessyca Shapiro in our brand new Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium right before the afternoon planetarium show started.

Akhil reached out to the LSC team ahead of time, and so we prepared a special proposal message on the screen.

The couple have been together for seven years and met in college at Binghamton University. Today's date (Dec. 16) is also their anniversary.

Akhil, a materials scientist, and Jessyca, a graphic design and art teacher, both love astronomy, which is why Akhil says the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium – the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere – was the perfect place to pop the question.

"I was struggling to find a place to propose since we aren't the ones to do a sit-down dinner or a view of Manhattan," Akhil says. "After scrolling around the Liberty Science Center website, I not only found an amazing place to go on Saturday for our anniversary, but a place that would be perfect to propose. She loves going to planetariums and this was a blessing."
