Before 2023 comes to a close, we wanted to give a shoutout to LSC team member Rosa Catala!
Earlier this year, Rosa – LSC’s Director of STEM Innovation – received the Center for Interactive Learning & Collaboration (CILC) Pinnacle Award, alongside her STEM Innovation team at LSC.
The award recognizes the most distinguished live virtual field trips by cultural centers around the world, with an emphasis on programs that deliver high educational value, actively involve learners at their level, and are professionally delivered via videoconferencing technologies.
“This feels wonderful,” says Rosa. “It is an acknowledgement that our team is on the right path when designing STEM programming for learners of all ages.”
That programming includes LSC’s Live From Surgery sessions, which allow students to peer into an operating room and interact with medical experts, as well as computer science and Makerspace courses – all of which can be experienced virtually.
“The most rewarding part of videoconferencing with students is making connections to real world applications,” says Rosa. “It is presenting them situations and having the students make connections.
“We do not teach them – we immerse them in the world of STEM and watch the learning take form.”
Congratulations again to Rosa and the entire STEM Innovation team at LSC!
