Teachers can win free field trips at Liberty Science Center’s Educator Mornings

LSC News

Congratulations to Dena DeCanto from Nicholas Oresko School in Bayonne! On Oct. 26, 2019, Ms. DeCanto won a free field trip for her sixth grade class. Way to go!

Ms. DeCanto was one of the raffle winners at LSC’s most recent Educator Morning. At LSC’s Educator Mornings, all educators – including teachers, home school educators, representatives from PTO organizations, and scout and group leaders – are invited to join us at the Science Center and preview our STEM programs.

Raffles and field trip giveaways were just some of the highlights from our most recent Educator Morning. At this event, participants explored our newest premium exhibition, Angry Birds Universe: The Art and Science Behind a Global Phenomenon, and then enjoyed workshops tied directly to the exhibition, covering concepts that included physics, engineering, and virtual reality.

In one of the workshops, titled “Shooting Hoops with Uncle Isaac,” an LSC STEM educator demonstrated how students in grades Pre-K through 2 could create a catapult designed to shoot baskets like a basketball pro. This workshop connects directly to NJSL-S (Science): K-2-ETS1-3.

In addition to the workshops, participants received a continental breakfast, a demonstration on LSC’s Electronic Field Trips, three professional development hours, and free LSC admission for themselves and a guest!

Educator Mornings occur four times per school year and run from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm for all types of educators in all grade ranges. While each Educator Morning is based around a theme, it also provides educators with an overall preview of what a program or field trip to LSC would be like. Plus, it’s always fun to indulge in coffee and snacks with fellow educators!

Upcoming dates for this school year are Jan. 11, 2020 (Robotics & Coding) and Feb. 22, 2020 (Early Childhood + STEM). Check out our Educator Mornings page periodically for additional dates and updates. Send us an email here to be added to our mailing list for bi-weekly updates from our STEM Education team!
