Edgar McGregor, 24, is an amateur meteorologist in Altadena, CA, whose Facebook page “Altadena Weather and Climate” is credited with saving hundreds of lives during the Eaton Fire of January 2025. McGregor regularly posted hyperlocal weather forecasts for thousands of followers and neighbors in the San Rafael mountains. On January 7, he repeatedly warned about fire conditions in Eaton Canyon before the authorities did. At 10:22pm, he posted: “You should not go to sleep tonight. If you are anywhere in the foothills, it’s time [to] pull an all-nighter. The fire danger is sky high. Everyone in Altadena, even the western side, should prepare to evacuate.”
