Find your inner Martian when “Mars Madness” takes hold at Liberty Science Center

Jersey City, NJ (July 24, 2018) – On July 27, Mars will shine brighter in the sky than it has for the past 15 years. There’s no better place to find your inner Martian and experience this rare astronomical event than Liberty Science Center’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere!

Liberty Science Center will host “Mars Madness” beginning at 7:00 pmET. The Earth won’t see anything like this again until 2035, and Liberty Science Center’s talented educators will there to explain Mars’ close approach to Earth this summer from dusk until midnight (weather permitting). Experts from the United Astronomy Clubs of New Jersey will also provide expertise and telescopes to help visitors discover objects visible in the sky this summer, from Venus to Jupiter to Saturn to the Moon. The night time event will also include outdoor telescope viewing, planetary face painting, astronaut glove challenges, and activities that explore the volcanoes and craters of Mars.

All ages are welcome, and guests 21 and over can enjoy delicious, astronomy-themed cocktails like MARSgaritas and Rocket Fuel. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children (members receive a $5 discount). For an additional $5, you can experience a new show, Summer of Mars LIVE!, in the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Travel to Mars and see up close what we’ve learned about the Red Planet based on recent NASA missions. There will also be a Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon Laser Show at midnight, available for an additional $5.

In addition, exhibitions in the Science Center will be open to explore, along with our outdoor patio! Enjoy a beautiful summer view of the Manhattan night skyline. Please note that your Mars Madness ticket gets you access to our Mars Madness event, from 7:00 pm – midnight. It is separate from general daytime admission.
