Grab the ugliest sweater you can find – or simply find something cozy and comfortable! – because the next LSC After Dark event for guests 21 and over is “Science, Sweets & Ugly Sweaters.”

Celebrate the first night of winter with us as we bring out icy experiments and sweet adventures. The event is Dec. 21, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Click here to get tickets.

If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, let us convince you. Here are 12 reasons you can’t miss LSC After Dark: Science, Sweets & Ugly Sweaters.

1) Experience the new Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium

Liberty Science Center recently opened the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater, the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, and you can experience it at LSC After Dark!

For a $5 donation, you can fly through the universe, roam distant planets, and navigate asteroid fields in our live planetarium show, or rock out to holiday classics in our holiday-themed laser show, Laser Wonderland.

As a non-profit organization, LSC relies on your support to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Your donation will help offset the costs for the programs LSC provides to the some 91,000 students from at-risk communities who would otherwise be unable to pay.

(Please note: You will be able to make your $5 donation in-person at the event)

The live planetarium show will play at 7:15 pm and 9:15 pm. Laser Wonderland will play at 6:15 pm and 8:15 pm.

2) Eggnog-flavored liquid nitrogen ice cream

It’s always a good time for ice cream, especially when science is involved! Our STEM team will show you how to make eggnog-flavored liquid nitrogen ice cream, and then give you a cup to enjoy.

3) Special group discounts

Are you planning a group trip to LSC After Dark? We recently introduced a Holiday Group Discount!

For $35 per person, groups of 6 and up can receive general admission, access to the super-premium Star Trek exhibition, a planetarium show, and a drink ticket. It’s a $45 value!

4) Edible science experiments

In science class, you were told not to taste things during an experiment. On Dec. 21, you’re allowed to break that rule for our series of edible science experiments!

Create edible slime that can be turned into candy canes. Learn the science behind “Flavor Tripping” and eat a miracle fruit that rewires your taste buds to make anything taste sweet.

5) Slap Shot Hockey

We’re bringing out one of our most popular activities for the holiday season (both kids and adults love it). Slap Shot Hockey!

This ice rink has everything except for actual ice. Take a shot on our smooth, slippery high-tech synthetic polymer surface.

6) TP Blizzard

Another one of our most popular holiday activities is the TP Blizzard. At some point during the night, the entire party will be blanketed by a spectacular blizzard of toilet paper!

7) Sweet-themed food vendors from Midnight Market NJ

Midnight Market NJ returns again this month with delicious $5 food plates from local vendors. This time, each vendor will have something sweet for the holiday season on their menu!

8) Holiday alcohol tasting

Yum! Join us for a free tasting of Amarula Cream, Camus Cognac, and Cask & Crew.

Like every month, we will also have a cash bar serving beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. Plus, we'll also have a Special Sangria Bar!

9) Ugly sweater contest + ugly sweater activity

Just how ugly can you go? Let us be the judge of that! We’ll be giving out prizes to whoever can repulse us (and more importantly, make us laugh) with their ugly sweater attire.

Plus, what is it that makes ugly holiday sweaters just so darn ugly? Join us for our special activity on optical illusions. You’ll learn the science behind ugly sweaters and how your brain responds to ghastly patterns and designs.

10) Holiday Tesla coils

We’re bringing out our famous Tesla coils! This month, you can hear them play holiday hits with electricity.

11) Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience

For an extra $10, you can experience our newest premium exhibition, Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience.

In this hands-on, immersive exhibition based on one of the world’s most popular sci-fi series, you’ll step into the shoes of a newly minted cadet in the 26th century. As you travel through nine different zones, you’ll receive the necessary science, engineering, medical and command training to navigate your way from orientation through graduation.

Both Trekkies and non-Trekkies will be engaged by the science behind the science fiction as you learn how Star Trek paved the way for many of today’s cutting-edge technologies.

As usual, all our permanent exhibitions – such as Touch Tunnel, Infinity Climber, and Our Hudson Home – will be open and included in your general admission ticket.

12) Hit the dance floor!

Celebrate the end of 2017 and the beginning of winter on our dance floor. Rock out with this month’s DJ, DJ NME!
