18 reasons you can’t miss LSC After Dark: Monster Masquerade

LSC After Dark

Are you scared? You should be, because LSC After Dark: Monster Masquerade, our latest event for guests 21 and over, is coming up fast! Click here to get tickets for the party, Oct. 18, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

Join us as monsters take over Liberty Science Center for one thrilling evening. Grab a drink, hit the dance floor, get free swag from our friends at Comcast Xfinity, explore the exhibits in the building, and prepare yourself for horrifying activities and experiments!

If you don’t have your ticket yet, let us convince you. Here are 18 reasons you can’t miss LSC After Dark: Monster Masquerade:

1) Doom Zoo

LSC’s iconic Halloween attraction, the Doom Zoo, will be open at LSC After Dark, this time bigger and more traumatizing than ever!

If you’re brave enough for it, enter the workshop of Dr. Krieger von Crimson, a surgeon obsessed with blurring the line between man and animal. Watch your back...his scientific abominations lurk behind every corner, and he’s always on the lookout for new test subjects.

We are not holding back for the Doom Zoo this year. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

2) The Spider Maze

For a less frightening experience, head outside to our Spider Maze, the most unique maze you’ll find all autumn! Step inside our 4,000-sq-ft webby adventure and solve an immersive puzzle. Along the way, you’ll encounter multiple (fake) spiders and learn more about these fascinating arachnids.

3) Ultimate Costume Contest

Show up in your most creative costume to LSC After Dark: Monster Masquerade, because we’re holding a costume contest and you could be the winner!

Last year’s winner was Bob Ross (photographed here). Think you have what it takes to snatch his throne? We can’t wait to see what you’ve got.

4) The Zombie Foodie Live Show

If you’ve ever watched the Food Network and thought it could use more guts, blood, and brains, you’re in luck!

At this humorous live show, you’ll learn all about animal organs from the grossest hostess – the Zombie Foodie! You’ll see real animal hearts, stomachs, livers, intestines, and lungs at this presentation led by a food blogger-turned-zombie who just can’t get enough.

5) Creepy cocktails

Yum! Enjoy a drink at our Specialty Cocktail Bar, with drinks that include the Witches Brew, Vampire Kiss, Green Goblin, Black Magic, and Cotton Candy Lemonade. Plus, beer and wine!

6) Food vendors from Midnight Market

Midnight Market returns again this month with delicious food from local vendors, at only $5 per plate. (Cash only, please.)

This month’s vendors include Ma and Pa Tex Mex BBQ, Hold My Knots, Gusti di Sicilia, Waffle Totz, Magic Mike’s Smoked, El Lechon de Negron, Taste of Poland, and Yani’s Bake House.

7) Fang-Tastic Live Animal Show

Get ready to meet some of LSC’s creepiest residents! Stop by our special Halloween-themed animal show and get up-close with tarantulas, snakes, and more.

8) JC Oddities Market

Our friends from the JC Oddities Market return against this month with vendors selling creepy gifts, art, and jewelry. Bring something spooky home to your loved ones!

9) Paranormal investigators

Investigators from the Paranormal Assistance & Research Association and UnScene paranormal web series are joining us for another LSC After Dark!

Visit them at their table displaying the equipment they use, as well as audio and video clips of their findings. They’ll also have a live presentation where you can learn more and ask questions about their work.

10) Pumpkin Bingo

It’s pumpkin season! Grab an endoscope and take a look to see what’s actually inside a pumpkin. You’ll even get a Bingo card to check off all your discoveries.

11) Bat Lab

Fly on down to our Bat Lab and learn about the different adaptations that bats use to survive. You’ll perform experiments and investigations at six different stations, and even get to use an audio amplifier to hear like a bat.

12) LSC’s most thrilling exhibits

Do you have a fear of the dark, or a fear of heights? Overcome your fears at two of LSC’s most popular exhibitions: the Touch Tunnel, an 80-foot, crawl-through pitch black tunnel, and the Infinity Climber, a suspended climbing space located 19 feet in the air.

13) New shows in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium

Experience a show in LSC’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the biggest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere!

This month, we’re playing two shows: Black Holes (narrated by Liam Neeson), where you’ll soar through a supermassive black hole in the Milky Way Galaxy, and the SpooktacuLaser Show, where you’ll rock out to classic Halloween songs (including Rocky Horror, Ghostbusters, Michael Jackson, and more) set against high-tech lasers.

LSC is a nonprofit organization, and when you make an additional $5 donation to support our programs for 91,000 students from at-risk communities, we’ll thank you with a ticket to one of these exhilarating shows. (Please make your donation in person at the event.)

14) Pepper’s Ghost Illusion Chamber

Pepper’s ghost is an old technique used to create the illusion of ghosts in haunted houses and other attractions. In our Illusion Chamber, you’ll learn how the technique works by turning yourself into a ghost!

Pull out the camera for this one – your friends on social media will shriek when they see what has become of you!

15) Infected tattoos

You can also freak out your friends with one of our tattoos that make it look like you’re infected! Get one for free during the party.

16) Return of the Bug Buffet

Tasty, tasty. We’re opening up the Bug Buffet again, where you’ll get to eat real bugs! Are you brave enough to do it?

17) More creepy experiments

We’ve got so many creepy experiments throughout the building, including a “Franken-Science” experiment using Van der Graaf generators and the “Brain Station” where you’ll compare and contrast human brains with zombie brains.

18) Rock the dance floor!

Whether you’re a vampire, witch, zombie, ghost, banshee, mutant, all of the above, or none of the above, let off some steam on the dance floor! It’s going to be an iconic evening and we can’t wait for you to be there!
