Celebrate All Scientists: Dr. Michio Kaku

Celebrate All Scientists

May is Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and LSC celebrates notable Asian-American scientist Dr. Michio Kaku.

Dr. Michio Kaku received his undergraduate degree in physics from Harvard University and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He is an internationally recognized authority in Einstein's unified field theory. Kaku is a co-founder of string field theory, a theory that uses the mathematics of fields to explain string theory. String theory attempts to explain all of the forces in nature, and its proponents say it may one day allow travel between universes, or even time travel. He has become familiar outside academia from his many appearances on science television and radio programs such as “The Universe” and from his best-selling books, including Physics of the Impossible and Physics of the Future.

In addition to his work in science, Kaku is a strong advocate for STEM education and the diversity of people in those fields. In a 2019 interview, Kaku said, “API Americans have made significant contributions to every aspect of American society. We are scientists, doctors, lawyers, artists, and entrepreneurs. We are proud to be Americans, and we are proud of our heritage.”
