Demos, races, classes, and more at LSC’s Day of Drones celebration

LSC News

Last weekend was all about drones at Liberty Science Center as we celebrated our latest Day of Drones event!

The fun began Friday, March 1, when LSC hosted the 5th Annual New York City Drone Film Festival. The adventures continued on Saturday when LSC was packed with wall-to-wall drone activities: a great experience for both experts and newcomers to drone technology.

In our Skyscraper! exhibition, guests watched tiny whoop drone races, and even immersed themselves in the action via FPV (first person view) goggles that allowed them to view the race from the drone's point-of-view.

We set up our drone cage, allowing guests of all ages to get experience flying a drone – many for their first time!

Upstairs in Governors Hall, we held a Drone Expo where multiple vendors showed off their impressive technology.

Guests enjoyed screenings of the winning films from the New York City Drone Film Festival, fresh off their victory the night before.

There were amazing panels throughout the day, such as a panel on closing the gender gap in the drone industry.

We also had classes on a wide range of subjects for different skill levels, including beginner and advanced.

But certainly one of the most thrilling parts of the day was when professional parkour athlete Milo Finnegan-Money showed off some impressive moves alongside the Skydio R1, a self-flying drone that follows you using trackers and artificial intelligence, recording great footage along the way.
