Fidelity Investments - Financial Literacy community evening

LSC News

“Is this really worth what it costs?” “How can I save my money and still have fun?” “How can I see the money I’ve earned grow?” These are some of life’s most important questions.

In partnership with Fidelity Investments, Liberty Science Center reached over 2,300 guests with fun and valuable financial literacy lessons during the Center’s Community Evening on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. This exciting, educational event offered free access to Liberty Science Center’s exhibits, movies and activities for students from NJ’s 31 at-risk school districts while celebrating Financial Literacy Month.

Rolando Lavarro, Jr., Jersey City Council President, Margaret Serravalli, Executive Vice President at Fidelity Institutional and Daniel Menelly, LSC’s Vice President of STEM (pictured below from left to right), spoke at the opening program for this financial literacy-themed Community Evening.

Alongside the helpful volunteers from Fidelity and LSC, students and families learned the importance of understanding financial concepts.

The Community Evening included games such as Bedtime Math®, Candy Contractors, All Money is Not Created Equal and even a Penny Scavenger Hunt. Guests practiced counting, exercised their financial knowledge and learned to consider the value of something before buying it.

Liberty Science Center is thankful for the support of Fidelity Investments and its many kind volunteers.

LSC is proud to have hosted such an engaged group of children, students and families who made the night a true success!
