Liberty Cup Drone Race is a soaring success

LSC News

Not even Mother Nature can get in the way of the Liberty Cup.

Tomorrow Liberty Science Center will hold Day 2 of the Liberty Cup drone race. The second and final day of the race was postponed due to inclement weather (drone racing is not an activity that should be held indoors!), but on Wednesday, the Liberty Cup will reach its highly-anticipated conclusion.

The first day of the race, held on Saturday, was a huge success (even those who crashed their drones still had fun). While spectators learned about the sport of drone racing, the best drone pilots in the Northeast – and several from across the globe, including Spain and Australia – congregated at LSC to show off their moves, make new friends, and compete to win this beauty…

…and, not to mention, a few thousand dollars too!

In addition to racing, the Liberty Cup was a terrific opportunity for pilots to record incredible drone’s eye view footage. Here’s a video taken by competitor Michael “Control” Tseng:

But we’re not the only ones who have been buzzing about the race. Here’s what people have been saying about the Liberty Cup:

The New York Times: “With Manhattan as Their Backdrop, Drones Will Zip, Glide and Race”

Good Morning America: “The Latest Extreme Sport Takes Flight”

The Wall Street Journal: “Drone Racers Feel the Need for Speed”

NorthJersey.com: “Drone racing coming of age with tight community of competitors”
