LSC News

Are you interested in a part-time job? Do you pride yourself on being customer-friendly, proactive, and reliable? Do you get excited at the thought of working in an environment full of science and technology wonders?

If so, we invite you to check out our Hiring Tuesday event at LSC! On Nov. 13, 2018 from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm, LSC will be interviewing candidates for the part-time positions of Hospitality Associate and Interpretation Associate.

If you are interested in either of these roles, please review the requirements below and then RSVP for one of our hiring events by calling 201.253.1569, Mondays – Fridays, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

The Roles

You will be the person that helps to inspire thousands to play and learn. You will connect with and delight our guests. You will help our guests with any questions they have about our exhibits and also develop creative solutions to any issues that may arise for them. Liberty Science Center is where the future comes to play and you will be “getting your play on” daily!

Our team is driven, collaborative, and entrepreneurial. Energy and passion power our mission and we are looking for candidates who share that passion to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers and excite learners of all ages about the power, promise, and pure fun of science and technology!

We are hiring for two different roles. Please read the descriptions below and note the differences between the two. While they are both customer service driven roles, the Interpretation Associate (IA) role requires familiarity with basic science concepts and ability to present to the public.

Role 1: Hospitality Associate (HA)

LSC has 700,000 guests walk through our doors annually. The Hospitality Associate’s primary focus is to welcome, facilitate, and enhance the guest experience at LSC in each of our exhibition spaces and throughout the Science Center. Welcoming guests is just one of the many things that you will be doing as a Hospitality Associate. Want to see (or not see) what it is like to crawl in an 80 foot, pitch black tunnel? Have you ever wondered what stars sit in the night sky? You will experience science and technology adventures daily as a Hospitality Associate.

RSVP to interview for this role by calling 201-253-1569 if you meet all of the following job requirements:

  • 6 months+ of customer service experience with a passion for solving problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for working with families and children
  • Charisma, initiative, and team spirit
  • Commitment to being punctual
  • A strong work ethic with a positive approach and great energy
  • Ability to make people smile
  • Empathy and mastery of effective listening
  • Flexible availability-must be available three full week days OR one weekday plus 1 weekend day

The salary for this role will be $10.25. Experience with customer service is necessary for this role.

Role 2: Interpretation Associate (IA)

The Interpretation Associate works in LSC’s on-site STEM-based learning labs and teaches “mini science labs” to groups of all ages, but with a heavy focus on elementary and middle school students.

The primary focus of this role is to draw guests into our lab spaces and excite them about the lab content in an informative and engaging way. Do you have exceptional presentation skills and a love of science? Can you talk about the Hudson River Estuary one day and the next day take our guests through the eye of the storm during a hurricane in our Curtain Wall Simulator. Are you comfortable talking to a group and do you excel at explaining abstract concepts in ways that can be easily understood by different age cohorts? If so, please consider joining our team as an Interpretation Associate.

RSVP to interview for Interpretation Associate role by calling 201.253.1569 if you meet all of the following job requirements:

  • Ability to make people smile
  • Empathy and mastery of effective listening
