Liberty Science Center welcomed scouts for an evening of sky-high excitement during Flight Night on April 25! Scouts explored the science behind aerospace engineering through hands-on activities, interactive challenges, and engaging live science experiences designed to spark curiosity and creativity.
The night kicked off at the Flight Zone, where scouts designed and built their very own hovercraft to take home.
At the Drone Obstacle Course, scouts took on the role of drone pilot as they carefully navigated flying drones through a series of obstacles from start to finish. This challenge tested their focus and problem solving skills using real-world drone technology.
Scouts then explored the forces of flight during Skyball Build, where they crafted custom parachutes using balloons, rice, and coffee filters. Once their designs were complete, they headed to the Drop Zone to test how well their parachutes could glide safely from above, while learning about gravity in action.
The excitement continued at Drag Races, where scouts investigated how drag impacts speed and motion. Participants first raced through the course normally, then repeated the challenge while wearing parachutes to feel how air resistance can affect movement.
Scout Evenings at Liberty Science Center offer a unique opportunity for scouts to connect with their peers from other troops, as well as explore STEM activities outside of their traditional badge requirements. Through immersive, hands-on learning experiences like Flight Night, scouts are encouraged to experiment, collaborate, and discover the science shaping the world around them.
