Phoebe Bridgers’ Lost Weekend Takes Over LSC’s Planetarium

LSC in Pop Culture

Before indie star Phoebe Bridgers’ new album, Lost Weekend, officially arrived on Friday, August 14, fans had the chance to hear it inside planetariums around the world.

For fans in the tri-state area, that meant experiencing the album at Liberty Science Center’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. With stunning visuals projected across the dome’s 88-million-pixel screen and 30,000 watts of digital sound filling the space, guests could see, hear, and feel Lost Weekend before its official release.

From Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14, audiences packed the Planetarium for 12 sold out shows! Guests had two different ways to experience the album: the Lost Weekend Laser Experience and the Lost Weekend Planetarium Experience. Fans could also commemorate this experience with limited-edition Phoebe Bridgers Lost Weekend shirts created for the planetarium events.

The Laser Experience paired Bridgers’ new music with an immersive production from Laser Fantasy, filling the dome with dazzling animations, kaleidoscopic imagery, and aerial laser effects that surrounded the audience in light. The Planetarium Experience, created by acclaimed night sky National Geographic photographer Babak Tafreshi, transformed Lost Weekend into a breathtaking audiovisual journey.

The week reached its headline moment on Thursday, August 13, when LSC partnered with Spotify for an exclusive event honoring some of Bridgers’ biggest fans. Bridgers’ top 1% of listeners on Spotify were invited to LSC for a first listen to the highly anticipated album. Before entering the Planetarium, guests stepped into a second floor transformed with glowing blue lights, atmospheric fog, and activations, including an exclusive photo keepsake. Even LSC’s iconic tower joined the celebration, illuminating the Jersey City skyline in a vibrant blue hue.

But Spotify and LSC had one more surprise in store! After the album experience concluded, a couch was revealed onstage inside the Planetarium. Fans immediately began to cheer as they realized what was about to happen: Phoebe Bridgers herself was about to appear.

Bridgers joined the audience for a personal conversation, sharing that she has loved planetariums since she was a child and explaining why she chose them as the setting for fans to first experience Lost Weekend. With just 400 seats, the Planetarium created an intimate setting, bringing Bridgers remarkably close to the audience and making her appearance feel even more personal, including a moment where her crew member, Mark brought out a guitar and she introduced him to the crowd.

She then made the night even more memorable with a live performance with her close friend and guitarist, Christian Lee Hutson along with keyboardist, Nick White! The artist performed songs from the new album, including lead single “Lost Boys,” and “Governors Waltz,” before closing with fan favorite “Scott Street.” Actress and singer-songwriter, Maya Hawke was even spotted amongst the planetarium crowd cheering on her partner, Hutson. Following the performance, every attendee was given another opportunity to meet Bridgers and sign their custom notebooks from Spotify.

From experiencing Lost Weekend beneath the Planetarium to an unexpected appearance and live performance from Bridgers, the event turned an album listening party into something truly special. It was a one-of-a-kind night where music and science came together at Liberty Science Center!
