On Thursday, August 13, Spotify invited 400 of Phoebe Bridgers’ biggest fans to Liberty Science Center for what they thought would be an exclusive listening experience for her new album, Lost Weekend. What they didn’t know was that Bridgers herself had one more surprise in store.
As the album experience came to an end, a couch was unveiled on the planetarium stage. The crowd immediately erupted into cheers as the realization set in: Phoebe Bridgers herself was about to join them.
Bridgers took the stage for an intimate conversation, sharing her longtime love of planetariums and explaining why she chose them as the setting for listeners to first experience Lost Weekend. With the stage just steps away from the audience, it created the kind of close, personal atmosphere rarely found at a traditional concert venue.
Joined by her close friend and guitarist Christian Lee Hutson and keyboardist Nick White, Bridgers performed an acoustic set featuring new tracks “Lost Boys,” “Kill Me,” “Liberty Tree,” and “The Governor’s Waltz.” She also treated the crowd to “Scott Street,” a fan favorite from her 2017 debut album, Stranger in the Alps.
Following the performance, attendees were invited to meet Bridgers and have their custom Spotify notebooks signed. Row by row, she took the time to greet guests and autograph each notebook, giving everyone in attendance one more personal keepsake to take home.
From hearing Lost Weekend before the rest of the world to an unexpected conversation, acoustic performance, and meet-and-greet with Bridgers herself, what began as an exclusive album listening event became an out-of-this-world night at the Science Center.
