Paleontologist and Dreadnoughtus discoverer Kenneth Lacovara visits LSC

LSC News

On Saturday, July 7, LSC received a visit from Dr. Kenneth Lacovara, the paleontologist who has unearthed some of the largest dinosaurs ever to walk our planet, including the super-massive Dreadnoughtus!

In two 20-minute presentations, Dr. Lacovara chatted with guests about dinosaurs, his experience as a field paleontologist, and some great stories about discovering the 65-ton Dreadnoughtus, a name he chose because the dinosaur was so big that it would fear nothing.

Dr. Lacovara also spoke about his work in New Jersey at the Edelman Fossil Park, an old mar pit filled with fossils from the Cretaceous Period.

After each talk, Dr. Lacovara signed copies of his recent book Why Dinosaurs Matter.

It was a great time! The dino expert joined us as part of our Dino Days of Summer celebration, which we held to kickoff the grand return of our summer exhibition Dino Dig. Our outdoor fossil site will be here for the season through Sept. 3, 2018! Click here for more information.
