New Orleans is coming to Liberty Science Center! This month’s LSC After Dark event for guests 21 and over is “Mardi Gras.” (Get tickets now for the event, Feb. 15, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm)

With delicious drinks from the Louisiana Bayou, fantastic music from Bourbon Street, and mysterious experiments that blend science and sorcery, this is definitely a bash that you won’t want to miss. But in case you need the extra push, let us convince you! Here are ten reasons you can’t miss LSC After Dark: Mardi Gras.

1) Masquerade makeovers

What type of person will you choose to be when you’re hidden behind a mask? Find out at LSC After Dark: Mardi Gras! We’ll be joined by the talented artists from the School of Makeup Effects, who will be giving out masquerade makeovers in true Mardi Gras style.

2) Voodoo doll anatomy

Grab some pins and join us for a lesson in voodoo doll anatomy, where you’ll build a human from scratch and learn about the relationship between the nervous system, muscles, and movement.

3) Mind control experiment

If voodoo dolls aren't enough power for you, then take a stab at our mind control experiment! Using electrodes, you'll be able to control the movements of your friends. Though they might not be your friends anymore after tonight...

4) Free limoncello tasting

Enjoy a free limoncello tasting at the party, courtesy of Jersey City Super Buy-Rite, featuring Pallini Limoncello and a twist on a traditional New Orleans cocktail, the Vieux Carré!

5) Specialty margarita bar

This month, we’ll also have a specialty margarita bar. Enjoy pomegranate, mango, and sour apple, plus a selection of beer and wine!

6) New show in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium

At LSC After Dark: Mardi Gras, we’re debuting our newest planetarium show, Lovers of the Cosmos LIVE!

For a $5 donation made in-person at the event, you can experience this new show in the largest, most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere right here at LSC!

As a non-profit organization, LSC relies on your support to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Your support will help offset the costs for the programs LSC provides to the some 91,000 students from at-risk communities who would otherwise be unable to pay.

7) Live music: The Hungry March Band

Rock out to the Hungry March Band, a legendary street bass march band from NYC that has previously played at Mardi Gras!

8) Food vendors from Midnight Market NJ

Midnight Market NJ returns this month with delicious food from local vendors! Each food plate is only $5 (cash only, please).

This month’s vendors include Waffle It and Co, Yani’s Bake House, Luke’s Empanadas, Mozzarepas, Under the Bun Burgers & BBQ, Cryo Cream, Sisig City, Guac Spot, and The French Quarter.

9) Hit the dance floor!

It’s not every night that Bourbon Street comes to Jersey City! Rock out all night on the dance floor with DJ Dprizzy.

10) Lots and lots of beads!

At LSC After Dark: Mardi Gras, you get beads just for showing up! Drape yourself in beads and share your best pictures online using hashtag #LSCAfterDark.
