You might've heard by now that October 7-9 is Wild Weekend at Liberty Science Center, an entire weekend devoted to celebrating some of our favorite wild animals!
But did you also know we're opening up the "Animal Artifacts Zone"? Stop by and view a plethora of cool and unusual animal "bio-fact" specimens as our Animal Interpretation Associates help you understand the animals behind these artifacts.
Skin of an African rock python snake
Feathers from Mickey, our green-winged macaw, will be on display this weekend
Here are a few of the highlights you can see this weekend:
The hide and horns of a greater kudu, one of the world’s largest antelopes
Colorful feathers from LSC's very own green-winged macaw, Mickey, who sheds them in a process known as molting
The skin of Africa’s largest snake, the African rock python. These guys can eat anything from small mammals to antelopes and even crocodiles
A blacktip shark jaw, displaying rows upon rows of those famously sharp teeth
A real hippopotamus skull which belonged to an incredible hippo named Bubbles. View and touch the incisors and tusks (yes, ivory tusks!) of this fantastic, 2-ton animal
Check out a video from 2013 of the LSC team working to restore the hippopotamus skull:
