Guests doing the Bee Dance

Dance like a bee during LSC’s Wild About Animals springtime celebration

LSC News

Did you know bees are excellent dancers? It’s true!

Instead of using a GPS, worker honey bees give their sisters directions to flowers with lots of nectar and pollen by moving in patterns, or “dancing.”

The direction of the dance tells the other bees the direction to travel to the flowers from the hive. How long they “waggle,” or shake their abdomen, shows how far away the flowers are. One second of waggling translates to one kilometer away.

We invite you to be like a bee and do a waggle dance at LSC during our Wild About Animals springtime celebration! When you enter the building, follow the pattern on the floor to learn the dance.
