Keep It Cool & Rainbow Connection BASF Kids' Labs at LSC

LSC News

This December, Liberty Science Center is hosting two BASF labs that are FREE for guests! You won’t want to miss Keep It Cool on December 6, and Rainbow Connection on December 20 for unique, hands-on experiences to explore the wonders of chemistry during your visit to LSC.

In Keep it Cool, learn about conductors and insulators and how they can keep out drinks icy cold or piping hot. Test out different materials like fluffy cotton and shiny foil to explore what makes certain types better for different circumstances– like our winter coats keeping us warm in the snow! This science is everywhere! Understanding what materials can stop heat transfers or allow them impacts plenty of the materials chosen for certain jobs.

In Rainbow Connection, explore the magic behind colorful chemical processes in separating complex components of a mixture, known as chromatography. This technique is used all the time in laboratories, and using markers and filter paper, you can test out the process yourself! Is black ink really just made of black dye? What about brown? Can you create a rainbow just by adding water? Come find out!

Both of these labs will have continuous attendance from 11:00am-3:30pm at Liberty Science Center. We can’t wait to see you there!

The BASF Kids’ Lab is designed for children ages 6–12, with at least one adult chaperone per four children. Participation is free with paid LSC admission or membership.
