Come get your degree in drones!

This weekend – Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27 – you’re invited to fly down to LSC for our latest drone event: Summer Day of Drones, a partnership with the the New York City Drone Film Festival. And for the first time, we’re opening our doors to Drone University.

In short 15-minute classes, you'll learn all about the science of flight and the basics of aeronautics. By learning this information, you’ll understand the fundamentals of how drones work and how to fly them.

After the class, you’ll get five minutes of flying time.

But your drone education won’t end there. During Summer Day of Drones, you can get up-close with professional drone pilots inside our dronesium cage and watch them perform aerial acrobatics.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to ask pilots anything you’ve ever wanted to know about drones, plus examine their technology up-close.

All weekend, we’ll also have drone racing, both indoors and outdoors! Watch some of the best pilots in the area compete to see who’s the fastest. Whether they’re navigating hoops set against the NYC skyline or obstacles positioned among superstructures in our Skyscraper exhibition, pilots will have a chance to put their skills to the test.

Spectators will get to wear first person view (FPV) goggles to see what the pilots see and experience the race from a drone’s perspective.

We’re also screening movies from this year’s NYC Drone Film Festival. Check them out at 3 pm on both Saturday and Sunday in our Joseph D. Williams 3D Science Theater (please purchase your tickets for the film screenings at the box office).
