On Thursday, Dec. 21, guests filled Liberty Science Center wearing their coziest and most hideous sweaters! It was LSC After Dark: Science, Sweets & Ugly Sweaters, a night filled with sweet adventures, icy experiments, holiday alcohol tastings, and more.
All throughout the building, from the Touch Tunnel to Infinity Climber, from the dance floor to the fourth floor, guests showed off their seasonal style, and we loved it!
This month’s special LSC After Dark activities were particularly festive.
Guests showed off their skill on the Slap Shot Hockey Rink, an ice rink that didn’t actually have any ice (it had a smooth, slippery high-tech synthetic polymer surface that mimicked ice).
People also witnessed the TP Blizzard, one of LSC’s most popular winter experiences.
Inspired by Bernoulli’s principle, this contraption demonstrates the relationship between speed and pressure via toilet paper. The entire dance floor was blanketed in TP!
Our STEM team, meanwhile, taught guests how to make eggnog-flavored liquid nitrogen ice cream, giving out cups for them to enjoy.
Speaking of food, Midnight Market NJ returned this month serving delicious $5 food plates from local vendors. This time around, each vendor – which included Eemas Cuisine, Gusti Di Sicilia, Taste of Poland JC, Tojo Kitchen, and more – included something sweet for the holiday season on their menu.
Guests also enjoyed free holiday alcohol tastings of Amarula Cream, Camus Cognac, and Cask & Crew, plus a Special Sangria Bar.
One of the most exciting parts of the night was when guests experienced LSC’s newly-opened Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.
This was the first time the planetarium was open for an LSC After Dark event! Guests flew through the universe, roamed distant planets, and navigated asteroid fields in our live planetarium show, and rocked out to holiday classics in our holiday-themed laser show, Laser Wonderland.
There were so many other adventures and experiences throughout the building.
Our Tesla coils were fired up for the first time this season. People learned about optical illusions in our activity on the science behind ugly sweaters (such as how your brain responds to ghastly patterns and designs). Guests rocked the dance floor with DJ NME!
Without a doubt, this was the sweetest LSC After Dark event of the year. Thanks to everyone who celebrated the beginning of winter (as well as the final LSC After Dark party of 2017) with us.
