On Jan. 18, Liberty Science Center was out-of-this-world! Our first LSC After Dark event of the year was “Gin and Jupiter,” a special space-themed adventure for guests 21 and over.
Everywhere people turned, there was an intergalactic adventure or activity. Take, for instance, the Intergalactic Laser Tag zone. Guests channeled their inner space warrior in this thrilling arena where friends and foes lurked around every corner.
From there, guests experienced one of our many space activities led by the STEM team.
People flew miniature drones through uncharted terrain, used their own body movements to land the Mars Curiosity rover via XBOX Kinect, looked through global microscopes to take a 3D tour of the solar system, and more.
Upstairs, the adventures got even more extraterrestrial!
For the first time at an LSC After Dark event, we opened the Tribble Ball Pit. Tribbles are a tiny, fuzzy alien species from the Star Trek universe, and are mostly harmless to humans – but unfortunately, 150 of them escaped from their habitat here at the Science Center. Therefore, we needed guests to hop into the 400 sq ft ball pit and help search for them. It was a blast!
Guests experienced a new planetarium show in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.
This new show, called Journey to Jupiter LIVE!, was all about the new discoveries that NASA’s Juno Spacecraft has made, including new information about the planet’s core, weather, magnetic field, and more.
Over on the dance floor, guests rocked out all night, and also participated in some pretty cool challenges like the space glove contest. Guests were challenged to do multiple activities, in the quickest amount of time, with an astronaut’s glove on their hand.
Midnight Market NJ returned with an amazing lineup of local food vendors, with tapas-style plates for only $5.
This month, we also offered delicious gin tastings from Brockmans Gin, Corgi Spirits, and Botanist Gin, brought in part by Jersey City Super Buy-Rite Wine & Liquors. Over at the Specialty Gin Bar, guests enjoyed a selection of unique gin cocktails.
For people who didn’t necessarily want gin, we offered otherworldly cocktails like Planetary Punch, in addition to beer and wine.
The event was a solar success! Thanks to everyone who came out. You can also relive the event through this excellent video recap:
