LSC After Dark throws one final ‘Game of Thrones’ celebration

LSC After Dark

Game of Thrones might’ve aired its series finale on May 19, but it wasn’t truly over until June 20 when LSC After Dark celebrated “Whiskey in Westeros 2"!

Guests drinking and having fun

This event – our final sendoff to the hit HBO series – was brought back by popular demand! Our first “Whiskey in Westeros” event on April 18 was completely sold out, leaving LSC After Dark fans wanting more.

For “Whiskey in Westeros 2,” we brought back many of our most popular experiences, as well as new ones too! Here are a few of the highlights:

Sitting on the Molten Throne

Guest sits on the Molten Throne

As anyone who’s seen the Game of Thrones series finale knows, the Iron Throne no longer exists after (spoiler!) one of Daenerys’ dragons burns it to a fiery crisp!

Paying tribute to the current state of the Iron Throne, our MakerLab team spent hours creating a realistic Molten Throne for guests to take photos on. This flexible, wear-resistant throne had over 70 blades on it and was lit up with LED lights.

Meeting the Wolfdogs

Girl smiles next to wolfdog

This month, we received another visit from the direwolves – er, wolfdogs – from the Howling Woods Farm in Jackson! Guests met these fascinating, misunderstood animals and learned about the conservation issues they face, as well as what makes them different from dogs (for example, wolfdogs are generally more fearful of people).

Interacting with Real Dragons

Guests pet a bearded dragon

Daenerys isn’t the only one with dragons. LSC has them, too!

At LSC After Dark: Whiskey in Westeros 2, guests met our bearded dragon and learned about what makes them different from the dragons on the show. For example, Daenerys’ dragons eat humans and large animals, while our dragon has a diet consisting of crickets and mealworms!

Experiencing a Game of Thrones-themed planetarium show

game of thrones planetarium show

This month, we brought back our Game of Thrones-inspired planetarium show!

Guests headed to the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and learned about the unusual seasons in the world of Westeros, in which winters are unpredictable in terms of their length and severity. Our planetarium educators discussed the possible astronomical explanations behind this, such as the concept that Westeros is on a world orbiting two suns, where the dynamics of two stars and a planet create unpredictable seasons.

The planetarium show also featured constellations that resonate with the show (such as Draco the Dragon, which is reminiscent of Daenerys’ dragons) and explored fiery and icy places in the universe, such as the Boomerang Nebula, which is the coldest known place in the universe.

Practicing Archery with the Night King

Shooting arrows at the Night King from Game of Thrones

Over in our Eat and Be Eaten exhibition, guests tried out their archery skills by shooting arrows at the Night King, one of the greatest villains on the show. LSC staff members helped guests hone their skill, with useful tips such as how they should always hold the bow with their non-dominant hand (because your dominant hand should be used to pull the string).

Experiencing the Show of Ice and Fire

Fiery experiment at the Show of Ice and Fire

Guests experienced a thrilling live show with experiments showcasing ice and fire. Viewers watched as our educators created a glowing icy blue cocktail using luminol and hydrogen peroxide, made a cloud by mixing boiling hot water with liquid nitrogen, and even (safely) set their hands on fire via a water glove that absorbed the heat.

Do not try at home!

Posing in the Wall of the Many-Faced God

Guests also took photos at the Wall of the Many-Faced God, which fans will remember as the site of Arya Stark’s dangerous journey in Seasons 5 and 6. Like the Molten Throne, the wall was created in LSC’s MakerLab, via programming tools such as face scanners and 3D printers.

Checking Out the Innovation Station

Trying out augmented reality at the Innovation Station

The party wasn’t just about Game of Thrones! Every month, our LSC After Dark events feature an Innovation Station, where guests experience the latest in must-see tech.

This month, our Innovation Station highlighted the companies All Things Media and Sporttrade. With All Things Media, guests learned about the tech they create for virtual and augmented reality experiences, and even tried out one of their new multiplayer augmented reality systems. With Sporttrade, guests learned about the company’s app that simplifies the sports betting experience, with real time updates and the opportunity to win actual cash.

Thanks to everyone who came out for LSC After Dark: Whiskey in Westeros 2! Tickets are now available for LSC After Dark: Born to Be Wild on July 18.
