In the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium at Space Talk presentation

LSC debuts Space Talk presentations led by today’s working astronomers

LSC After Dark

On June 2, 2022, Liberty Science Center debuted our brand new Space Talk presentations!

Every first Thursday at LSC After Dark, guests are invited to a FREE presentation led by one of today’s working astronomers in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, the biggest planetarium in America.

Each Space Talk explores the Big Unanswered Questions of the universe. And for our first one, we were joined by Dr. Saurabh Jha, professor of physics and astronomy at Rutgers, for a discussion on “How Fast is the Universe Expanding?”

It may not feel like it, but the universe all around us is constantly expanding. But just how fast is it happening? During his presentation, Dr. Jha took viewers from Earth to the edge of the universe to help us find out. To do this, Dr. Jha looked at giant stars in nearby galaxies, and exploding stars in the most distant galaxies of the universe.
