LSC mourns the passing of Dr. Michael Pitter

LSC News

Liberty Science Center mourns with great sorrow the passing of Dr. Michael C. Pitter, a visionary in the field of gynecology, a worldwide pioneer in gynecologic robotic surgery, a devoted and passionate teacher and mentor, and a beloved member of the LSC family.

Dr. Pitter joined LSC’s “Live From Surgery” program in October 2007 with the goal of educating students with an interest in medicine. Using cyber-enabled technology, he welcomed them to the operating room during actual surgeries and generously shared his insight and experience. Through this innovative program, Dr. Pitter made an indelible mark on some 5,000 students and helped them to inform their own careers.

We will always be indebted to Dr. Pitter for his dedication and important contributions to STEM education and helping the next generation of surgeons flourish. On their behalf – and all of us at LSC – our heartfelt condolences go to his immediate and extended families. May his memory always serve as an inspiration to us all.
