Meet LSC's Animals

Meet LSC’s animals! Chester, named after Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields, is an Argentine black and white tegu.

Watch Chester explore different parts of Liberty Science Center in our new video:

Besides Argentina, these animals can be found in Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and unfortunately Florida. How did they get to Florida? Experts think they escaped captivity and have been illegally released into the wild where they have been able to successfully reproduce.

Chester is a Floridian tegu that was taken out of the wild by an expert and re-homed to LSC several years ago.

We know Chester is a male by his large “jowls,” or cheeks, which is only present in males.
