On Friday, March 1, Liberty Science Center hosted the 5th Annual New York City Drone Film Festival (NYCDFF).

That evening, fans and filmmakers packed the building to celebrate the art of drone cinematography and award the most outstanding drone films of the year. And what a celebration it was! For the first time, the nominated films were screened on LSC’s massive planetarium screen – the biggest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.

Awards went out to 11 different films in categories that included “Extreme Sports,” “Landscape and Architecture,” “News & Documentary,” “Narrative,” and for the first time “Cinematic First Person View (FPV),” which is a film made with the use of first person view goggles.

Filmmaker Airblastr took home the top prize of the night, winning "Best in Show" as well as "Cinematic FPV." Check out the winning film, Moablaster 2 – The Storm:

In addition to the award show, the night’s activities included drone races in Governors Hall, panels on drone technology and legal/policy issues, delicious food from local vendors courtesy of Midnight Market, cocktails for guests 21 and over, and a thrilling afterparty!
