Liberty Science Center is known for having the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere – the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium. But this summer, thanks to a grant from NASA, LSC planetarium educators are taking a planetarium on the road in partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County to support their summer programs!
Through a STEM Innovator Award from NASA, LSC is hosting its summer portable planetarium series for 5th and 7th grade students from Boys and Girls Club. Students have the chance to explore the Universe in our portable planetarium, practice new technology skills and STEM careers, and learn all about NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope and Artemis programs. By the end of the Summer, students will be writing and presenting their own planetarium shows in the portable planetarium. LSC is also welcoming 5 high school aged Neer Peers to assist in delivering the programs and along the way engaging them in STEM and education careers.
All students participating in the program will have the exciting chance to present their planetarium shows in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium as a part of our Community Evenings.
LSC is honored to be a recipient of NASA’s inaugural Innovator Award, which supports programs that expand STEM learning beyond the classroom and inspire future innovators. NASA selected 19 institutions nationwide to receive nearly $4.5 million in grants to help deliver NASA STEM experiences to broad regional audiences.
