Receive free, safe solar viewing glasses for the Ring of Fire eclipse!

LSC News

On Saturday, Oct. 14, Liberty Science Center celebrates the Ring of Fire eclipse!

This kind of eclipse is called a “Ring of Fire” eclipse because in some areas—including parts of the US—the moon will be exactly in the middle of the sun’s disc, causing the appearance of a bright ring of sunlight surrounding the moon.

On Saturday, every ticketed guest and Liberty Science Center member will receive safe solar viewing glasses, for free, while supplies last.

These glasses are great for viewing the eclipse (as well as for the eclipse happening on April 8, 2024 – mark your calendar!).

Be sure to read the rules for safe use of your solar eclipse viewing glasses:

  • Don’t look directly at the eclipse (or at the sun, EVER) even while wearing these glasses.
  • Do not use these glasses if they are damaged, torn or punctured. Return them and ask for another pair.
  • Do not use over or under other glasses or sunglasses.
  • Limit to 3 minutes of use, and take many breaks between glances at the eclipse.
  • Adults: Supervise children using the glasses to make sure they follow the rules.
