Seeing stars and exploring black holes at Friday Nights @ LSC

LSC News

What would happen if multiple black holes collided? How much time does it take for a black hole to suck you in? And are black holes hot or cold?

These are just a few of the questions that were asked to Dr. Philip Armitage, professor of physics and astronomy at Stony Brook University, on May 31 at our most recent Friday Nights @ LSC event!

An expert in the topic, Dr. Armitage took to our Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium to lead a lecture on some of the exciting breakthroughs in black hole research, from the observation of colliding black holes to the recent release of the first picture ever taken of a black hole.

Dr. Armitage’s lecture was just one highlight of our latest Friday night event. After an awful week of rain, the weather ended up being perfect for stargazing! Guests of all ages headed outside and viewed spring constellations through our telescopes.
