Stevens SURE House: Coming soon to LSC

LSC News

If you visit Liberty Science Center in the next few weeks, you might notice some construction outside the building.

Here’s the scoop: We’re getting things ready for our Stevens SURE House installation!

The SURE House, an award-winning Stevens Institute of Technology project, represents an ideal home that is sustainable and resilient, and would benefit areas at risk of rising sea-levels and damaging storms. It is fully solar-powered, a hub for emergency power, and requires 90% less energy use than its conventional cousins.

This incredible project was the winner of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2015. It was built with the purpose of mitigating climate change, while also bracing for its effects.

We are excited to showcase the SURE House right here at the Science Center! Guests will have the opportunity to tour it once it’s installed.

The project, which was built in Hoboken, is currently stored in California and will be brought to LSC in the near future.
