The Cubers united, and it was awesome

LSC News Beyond Rubik's Cube

We solved 158 cubes!

We had an excellent Saturday here at LSC.

Thanks to You Can Do the Rubik’s Cube and the West Windsor Plainsboro Cube Team, visitors had the chance to compete in a speedcubing competition, join a group solve, build a Rubik’s Cube mosaic, or learn to solve the cube for the first time.

Speedcubing. Check out that intense concentration.

Legendary speedcuber Anthony Brooks of Volkswagen’s “You Can’t Fake Fast” campaign, was joined by fellow cubers Tim Sun and Andy Smith to break the record for fastest Groovik’s Cube solve. The Groovik’s Cube, recently installed at LSC, is a 24-foot tall glowing cube that requires 3 people to solve. The team solved it in 4 minutes and 29 seconds, breaking the previous record of 5 minutes and 18 seconds.

Looking good, Chief.

The celebration culminated in 158 individuals solving the Rubik’s Cube simultaneously. Participants ranged in age from 6 through adult and came from all over the tri-state area.

Liberty Science Center is currently fabricating an exhibition that explores the insights and innovations inspired by 40 years of playing with the world’s most popular puzzle. The exhibition, Beyond Rubik’s Cube, will debut at LSC in Jersey City in April 2014 before traveling internationally for seven years.
