Thousands experience The Great Eclipse at Liberty Science Center

On April 8, 2024, Liberty Science Center threw the Largest Astronomy Party in New Jersey! We celebrated The Great Eclipse, when the sun was 91.2% covered in a near-total eclipse. There won’t be anything like this again until 2044!

Some highlights of the day included free solar viewing glasses, telescope viewings, live webcasts, hands-on astronomy activities, a themed food and drink menu, space trivia games, and more!

The fun began at 10:00 am, when LSC opened for the day. The Great Eclipse celebration began at 1:00 pm, but the eclipse officially started at 2:10 pm, when the moon started to move in front of the sun. The deepest coverage of the sun by the moon occurred at 3:25 pm, and then the eclipse ended at 4:36 pm.
