Wanted: the spotted lanternfly!

LSC News

If you see it, stomp it!

This week, we're putting up a new “WANTED” flyer in our outdoor Dino Dig Adventure exhibition. If you see a spotted lanternfly – either at home or at LSC – we encourage you to step on it!

The spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect that came to North America in cargo shipments from Asia in 2012. They harm more than 70 different plants, including apple trees and grape vines.

These insects have been spreading rapidly throughout the eastern United States and continue to enter new areas, hurting native ecosystems.

It may feel wrong at first, but stepping on the spotted lanternfly is the right thing to do. This an environmentally friendly method to help scientists eradicate these invasive insects.
