What's on the menu for LSC After Dark: Space Cantina?

LSC After Dark

Are you ready to embrace your dark side and indulge in some delicious cantina treats? Our LSC After Dark: Space Cantina party is on December 15, and the food is so incredible that you’ll want to chomp it all down faster than Jabba the Hutt would with a bucket of frogs.

We caught up with Liberty Science Center executive chef Jeremy Sadel to learn about his Star Wars-inspired menu: “I am a bit of a Star Wars fan,” Sadel says. “So I started thinking about foods that were eaten in the movies. But when I started to research it, there really weren’t too many scenes where someone was actually eating something.”

What Sadel eventually decided to do was create a menu mainly inspired by the animals from the Star Wars universe.

Check out his comments on each dish:

Mynock Wings

“In The Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo inadvertently landed the Millennium Falcon inside a big space slug when they were trying to escape the Imperial Star Destroyer. When they’re inside, they encounter a pack of Mynocks, which are bat-like parasites that were chewing on the power cables. So the Mynock Wings – that’s where they came from.”

Nerf Skewers

“In the Star Wars universe, Nerfs are kind of what cows are to us. They’re raised for their meat, their milk, and their hide. So for us, it’s going to be steak skewers with a ginger orange marinade.”

Tatooine Critter Fritters

“In Return of the Jedi, when Han is rescued from Jabba the Hutt’s palace in the Dune Sea on Tatooine, Jabba was seen eating these little alien creatures that are Klatooine paddy frogs. So, since it’s one of the few scenes you actually see someone eating something, we wanted to do something with that. We couldn’t get our hands on Klatooine paddy frogs, so instead we’ve got corn fritters and shrimp fritters, mashed up together with a little sauce.”

Forage of Endor

“Also in Return of the Jedi, the Rebel forces took the fight to the Forest Moon of Endor. That’s where the Imperial troops are guarding the shield generator complex for the Death Star. So along that theme, we thought since it’s a Forest Moon, we would have things you would forage in the forest. Root vegetables, some beets and radishes, parsnips, and then you’ve got a roasted tomato vinaigrette.”

Seven Leia Dip

“That’s really just a play on words. Straight up, seven layer dip!”

Yum, sounds delicious! If you haven’t yet, get tickets now for LSC After Dark: Space Cantina.
