12 coolest things LSC Science Campers get to do this summer

LSC News

LSC Science Camp is back for another amazing summer! This year, there are even more adventures to be had for elementary and middle school students at all grade levels.

From secret agent training, to zombie survival, to 3D printing lessons, to adventures in LSC’s brand new Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater, this year’s Science Camp definitely can’t be missed!

Need some convincing? Here are 12 coolest things LSC Science Campers get to do this summer:

1) Build robots

Learn to build and program fully autonomous robots that will conquer every challenge they encounter! This summer’s robotics courses include Rockin’ Robots, LEGO WeDo® Robotics, and LEGO®-a-Go-Go.

Rockin’ Robots open to students entering grade 1.
LEGO WeDo® Robotics open to students entering grades 2 and 3.
LEGO®-a-Go-Go open to students entering grades 4 and 5.

2) Use the force

Calling young padawans! In our Force Academy course, little Lukes and Leias will develop their knowledge of the forces behind Sir Isaac Newton’s three laws of motion. Campers will join together to test different forces, friction, and more as they complete a variety of engineering design challenges.

Open to students entering grade 1.

3) Become paleontologists

Embrace your inner paleontologist! In our Dino Detective course, campers will unearth the clues left behind by dinosaurs. Compare bone and skull structure, build fossils, interact with dinos’ living relatives, and investigate why these majestic creatures are not living today.

Open to students entering grades 2 and 3.

4) Bring movies, TV, and books to life

Unleash the science behind some favorite stories and movies. In our Diary of a Science Kid course, campers will investigate and explore the worlds of biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering from selections that include Captain Underpants, Descendants, Despicable Me, Dr. Seuss books, and more.

Open to students entering grades 2 and 3.

5) Soar the stars

LSC’s new Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater is the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in the Western Hemisphere! In our Astro Stars and Astronomy Exploration courses, campers will head to the planetarium and soar deep through distant nebulae and black holes.

Astro Stars open to students entering grades 2 and 3.
Astronomy Exploration open to students entering grades 4 and 5.

6) Become spy kids

Liberty Science Center is enlisting secret agents! In our Secret Agent course, campers will take on new identities and learn everything they need for the world of espionage – like cracking codes and designing spy gadgets – to help rescue LSC from an evil foe.

Open to students entering grades 4 and 5.

7) Get messy

Being gross has never been this great. In our Messy Science course, campers will dive into chemistry, biology, and physics to uncover the messy science all around us. Take a closer look at things that squish, fizz, bubble, pop, gush, and splat!

Open to students entering grades 4 and 5.

8) Survive the zombie apocalypse

Way realer than The Walking Dead! In our Zombie Apocalypse course, campers are challenged with using science to rebuild the world after a zombie apocalypse. Learn the survival “Rule of Threes” as you build shelters, design water purification devices, engineer vertical gardens, and more.

Open to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8.

9) Use 3D printers to help animals

With 3D printing, you can help injured animals get a second chance. In our Brace Yourself course, campers will become bioengineers as they design and 3D print prototypes of prosthetic assistive devices that could improve the lives of animals.

Open to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8.

10) Design the ultimate costume

In our Cosplay Costume Design course, campers will head into LSC’s MakerLab and create one-of-a-kind sci-fi or fantasy costumes using 3D printers, vacuformers, and other tools. We can’t wait to see their ideas come to life!

Open to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8.

11) Sail the seas

Embark on the ultimate high seas adventure in our STEM Sailing course. In partnership with North Cove Sailing School, this course teaches the physics behind sailing. Campers will then apply their skills on a sailboat out on the water!

Open to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8.

12) Make your own rock show

Music and lasers collide in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater! In our Rock Show course, campers will awaken their creative sides as they learn to blend music with laser light animation to design and choreograph their own visual productions.

Open to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8.
