LSC News

April 24–28 is the Week of the Young Child! Recognized nationally, this annual event celebrates early learning, young children, their teachers, and families.

Each day at Liberty Science Center, we have activities celebrating a special theme, just for learners ages 2-7. Check out our schedule below:

Music Monday (April 24)

Activities include:

  • Tunetastic: Get Your Music On: Make music! Create musical instruments from ordinary materials and learn how sound works.
  • Let’s Get Curious: How Sound Works: Learn different principles of sound using tuning forks and other tools. Listen up!
  • It’s Alive: Can sound move objects? Investigate with high and low frequency sounds, and a pile of slime!

Taco Tuesday (April 25)

Activities include:

  • Flossful of Fun: Learn how to floss like a pro, and see why it’s such an important habit.
  • Let’s Make a Pizza!: Learn about the four basic food groups while making super-healthy versions of pizza.
  • Little Dragon’s Digestive System: Meet Sam, a dragon with really bad eating habits! Learn how the digestive system’s organs work together.

Work Together Wednesday (April 26)

Activities include:

  • Rainforest Rescuer: Help three animals find their home in the layers of the rainforest, using real feathers and other clues.
  • Recycle City: Help us construct a fanciful cityscape out of cardboard, newspapers, and more recyclable items.
  • PVC Catapult: Can you fling a ball at waffle blocks and knock them down using a catapult built right here at LSC? Try it!

Artsy Thursday (April 27)

Activities include:

  • Sam the Sensitive Slime: Learn about non-Newtonian fluids, also known as slime. Then see one that changes colors depending on how hot or cold it is, and learn why.
  • All About Invisibility: Use breakers, test tubes, and vegetable oil to see how bending light can make something disappear before our eyes!
  • Color Wheel: Explore primary and secondary colors and learn which colors go together to make another color.

Family Friday (April 28)

Activities include:

  • What’s the Matter?: Enter the colorful world of chemistry! Explore whether changes to different types of matter can be reversed.
  • Flow Motion: Become a drop of water in the water cycle. Play this fun game to learn how water travels through this never-ending cycle.
  • What Can We Grow?: Plant your own plush gardens of fruits and vegetables. We have all the tools, supplies, and bugs you need. Also we will learn to sort recyclable materials.
