LSC campers to explore the science of sailing on the open water

LSC News

One of the most popular courses at LSC Science Camp is back for Summer 2019!

This year, LSC will again offer the “Science of Sailing” program that intertwines science and the thrill of the open water.

Campers will spend half of their day at LSC learning the physics of sailing and the other half of their day applying their skills on a sailboat.

With an experienced captain onboard, the young mariners will sail by Lady Liberty, Ellis Island, and Liberty State Park while learning concepts such as boat design and buoyancy, navigation, water and air currents, tacking, jibing, rigging and de-rigging and knots. Parents will also have the incredible opportunity to photograph their children from the shore.

“The Science of Sailing” is open to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8. There is still space available for the Week 4 session, running from July 29 through Aug. 2. Click here to register and to get more information about LSC Science Camp.
